that's the game as Williamson comes down the track, goes inside out and smears a off drive to the boundary. That shot gives him so many options against spin and it's fitting that it signals victory on a slow and low pitch in Lahore. He goes to 7000 ODI runs in the process too
South Africa vs New Zealand, 2nd Match at Lahore, Tri-Nation, Feb 10 2025 - Ball by Ball Commentary
New Zealand won by 6 wickets (with 8 balls remaining)
5.45pm It was a clinical chase by NZ who have sealed their place in the tri-series final. SA, who will be bolstered by the arrival of their first-choice players, will meet Pakistan on February 12 in a virtual semi-final. Until then, this is Deivarayan Muthu signing off on the behalf of Ashish Pant and Venkat Raghav. Take care and cheers.
Mitch Santner, NZ captain: I think you wanna win but different guys performing is pleasing for the squad and we have another big game in a few days' time in Karachi. I guess we pride ourselves on fielding, especially in the middle overs on flat wickets where there are partnerships. It was an outstanding knock from Conway and that partnership between him and Kane...
Temba Bavuma, SA captain: Yeah, some positives. Matty on debut scoring 150 and the other guys from a bowling point of view also chipped in. Probably didn't score too many runs. It was tricky against the new ball and they got the ball to nip around off the surface, but once that went away, it became a bit easier. Would have liked to get more runs. From this game, we will have to be a lot better with your batting and bowling and it won't get easier. As a team, we have to up our game and it's going to be a quick turnaround. He was amazing and one of those guys waiting in the wings. One of the guys who plays all three formats and I'm sure you will see a lot more of Breetzke.
Kane Williamson, Player of the Match: Yeah, I think the conditions today were a bit different and we did an outstanding job. Breetzke with an outstanding hundred and we had to work hard to chase it down. We now get a few days off. We keep going to different venues; last one was a day-night game and this was an early start. GP is a lot stronger than me and we have to do it differently. Whenever you're chasing a score like that you need partnership and it was a really good team effort. We're trying to get used to the conditions as much as possible.
New Zealand are in the tri-series final and are shaping up nicely for the Champions Trophy. Much smoother sailing in the second game for the Black Caps. Restricting South Africa to only 305 despite their debutant Matthew Breetzke scoring a record-breaking 150 was a plus. Just how big a plus that was became clear once Devon Conway and Williamson began batting, scoring runs virtually at will, barely needing to take a risk. Do stick around for the post-match presentation.
Vinish Garg: "Williamson reaches 7000 mark in ODIs, faster than Kohli. Talk about legends--he has already taken over Kohli in test cricket. "
Deep Gadhia, our statsman: Williamson becomes 5th NZ batter to score 7000 ODI runs and 2nd fastest batter to reach the milestone.

"Take it to the last over, Kane. Give the people what they want," says Verreynne from behind the stumps and Williamson laughs
stays back again to another fullish delivery on off stump and dabs it through point
comes forward to defend a full length ball on middle
stays back to a pretty full ball angled into him, plays all around it too and ends up weathering an lbw appeal. Going down leg
shorter and turns back in at off, GP stands tall and crisply punches the ball down to long-off
pushed through on middle and leg, much flatter in trajectory, nudged to midwicket once again
skidding into middle and leg, GP moves back and clips the ball away to midwicket
shorter and turns away outside off, GP goes right back to punch the ball away to sweeper cover
speared into the pads, clipped away through backward square leg. 300 up for NZ
looped up on middle, Williamson leans and chips it in front of short midwicket
on a length and outside off, driven on the up to extra-cover on the front foot
Andre: "@Kasinathan : The problem with Shamsi and Lungi is that they play so much T20. Not sure that's the best prep for the longer formats. They are both probably not on my ODI squad"
wide on the crease, full and outside off, pushed away to the right of short cover. Half-save from the infielder
BJ: "My takeaway from this: don't set your opponents 305 to win an ODI. India, and now shortly New Zealand have chased this down in the last 24 hours!"

down the track and driven to short cover
tossed up and turns away outside off, reaches out and carves the ball to point off the outside half
full and on off, driven past the bowler for one more
overpitched and outside off, drilled down to long-off by GP
Kasinathan: "Shamsi has lost his sheen I fear. He was expensive in SA20 and now too. "
flighted on off, GP sees the flight, likes the flight and smokes it into the sightscreen or rather over it. Such a smooth swing of the bat
tossed up slower and higher on middle, Williamson stretches out and drives it past Shamsi to long-on
