After losing 28 overs at the start, following heavy overnight rain, Notts maintained a prolific strike rate to end the first day of their Division Two County Championship match against Glamorgan handily placed on 309-7.
Having elected to bat first, the home side were rocked either side of lunch by the early dismissal of both openers. A stand of 48 between Jason Gallian and Usman Afzaal steadied proceedings before Afzaal became the first of two wickets to fall in an over from Steve Watkin. The out-of-form Paul Johnson only lasted four deliveries before pulling a long-hop to the only man on the leg side.
Debutant Chris Hewison got his first class run tally underway first ball, with 2 through midwicket and he helped his skipper add over 50 for the 5th wicket before a legside glance to the 'keeper curtailed a promising innings.
Meanwhile Jason Gallian had continued his recent rich vein of form with another fine half century, which included a pull for 6 off Alex Wharf.
Hewison, for 24, and Chris Read, for 20, both fell before tea leaving the Notts captain unbeaten on 75 at the interval.
Paul Reiffel again provided valuable support after the resumption and dominated the strike in another 50 stand. Bogged down in the 90's for several overs Jason Gallian at last forced Adrian Dale through the off-side to record his third century of the season (226 mins 156 balls 17x4's 1x6).
The Victorian captain then reached his own half century (65 balls 8x4's) before lifting Watkin straight to deep midwicket, where Ian Thomas took a well-judged catch.
Paul Franks joined Gallian for the last half an hour of the day and enriched it with three sparkling cover drives. At the close Franks was still unbeaten on 14 but for the second consecutive match Jason Gallian has led from the front with an excellent century. He'll resume on day two not out on 127.
