finishes it with a yorker on off stump, Invincibles win by 14 runs! Sam Curran adds another piece of silverware to his trophy cabinet by closing out victory, as the south Londoners back up their group-stage performances with a maiden Hundred title
Invincibles vs Originals, Final at London, Men's Hundred, Aug 27 2023 - Match Result
Invincibles won by 14 runs
9.10pm: The bling has been blung, Billings holding the Hundred H up as the fireworks pop over HQ. Two new champions today, with the Invincible men joining Brave women in claiming the trophy for the first time. That's it for 100-ball cricket for another year, but there's still a full programme of white-ball internationals to come this summer - starting with the first T20I between England and New Zealand on Wednesday. Do join us for that. For now, from myself and Miller, Matt, Vish, Valkerie and Paul, Ekanth, Sudarshanan and Danyal, as well as Venkat and all the scorers, thanks for tuning in. Bye!
9.01pm: Time for the presentations... Jamie Overton is the Men's Hundred MVP: "Yeah, nice to contribute. Disappointed not to get over the line but been a good tournament. Nice to finally get here after a couple of years of injuries and show them what I can do. Loved it, the format is very different to T20s, but a great tournament. Good form, nice to learn about what I need to do at the back end of an innings. Shame I couldn't get over the line today."
Tom Curran is Match Hero for his unbeaten 67 and 1 for 25: "I don't know how to sum it up. Really pleased, the boys have done unbelievably. Proud of the group and really happy. We weren't in a great position, took a bit of time and tried to be positive, got a partnership going with Neesh. Amazing occasion, the Hundred has been unreal. The crowd was amazing, right behind us. The last couple of years we've felt good, this year we've managed to get over the line in tight games. Everyone from the top down, Bilbo has been phenomenal."
Oval Invincibles captain Sam Billings: "Pleased for everyone, it's been a great year and we've played some great cricket. Fitting that Tom Curran was star man, he has been clutch in tight moments and that was Exhibit A. Lot of work behind the scenes, the social sec was appointed early. Vibe was different to previous years and made the difference today. [Young fans] They are the next generation so hopefully we'll see these guys out there in years to come. Can't thank the coaching staff enough, the work that goes behind the scenes was really positive, they don't get the credit but played a huge part. These moments don't come around too often, great to have friends and family here. We'll enjoy tonight."
8.55pm: They don't call them Invincibles for nothing. At 34 for 5 after 36 balls, only one team seemed likely to win this game - but Tom Curran and James Neesham resurrected their chances. It was going pear-shaped for Oval, only for the pair's record-breaking stand to take them to a defendable score, and Jos Buttler's Originals couldn't repeat their chasing pyrotechnics from The Oval last night. Buttler finishes as the tournament's leading run-scorer, but Sam Billings is the England wicketkeeper who will be lifting the trophy tonight, in front of a 27,895 crowd at Lord's. For the second year running, Originals come up short in the final analysis
"Over the moon," says Jason Roy. "If you'd told me 30-40 balls into our innings that was going to happen, I wouldn't have believed you. Absolutely stoked. Everyone has stepped up at different times, not been a one- or two-man show. We've missed a lot of players, Adam Zampa, Heinrich Klaasen, Sunil Narine. The support has been second to none as well. We'll enjoy a few beers tonight"
another cutter in the channel, swatted to long-off. Overton accepts the single, knows the jig is up
full and wide, another slower delivery. Overton clubs a couple more in front of the cover sweeper... but Curran's job is almost done
"Tie anyone...??" Three consecutive sixes and we're there, Asra
And Overton has torn one of his pads in the process, so there's a delay while a replacement is run out
back of a length, angled across with pace off and Overton hoicks a top edge out towards deep point. He dives to make his ground back at the striker's end as Sowter's throw comes in
full and wide of the stumps, slammed over cover and they get back for two on the misfield from Whiteley
Last set, Sam Curran to bowl. Invincibles have squeaked in under the cut-off... 23 needed from five to steal it for Originals
superbly bowled, 83mph yorker and Overton can only poke it away to leg. He turns and ignores the possibility of a single
goes for the yorker again, dug out to long-on
moves across and swings to leg, the ball whistles past off stump! Full and fast, 85mph, straight through to the keeper - but a lick of paint from bowling Hartley behind his pads
pitched up and dragged into the wide open acres at wide long-on
slower ball, spanked over long-on! Jumps out of the crease and times this lusty blow sweetly for another much-needed six
TeeCee is back, Originals need 32 from 10, still a puncher's chance. And the cut-off is four minutes away...
goes for the wide yorker and gets it right, 88mph and skidding through to the keeper
Few more of those needed
short and monstered into the Tavern Stand! Overton sits back, stands tall and bludgeons this 85m into the crowd
flung full and wide, pace off and poked to extra cover... Hartley would have been gone with a direct hit! Sam Curran's throw wasn't far off
pitched up and belted down the ground, 89mph and Hartley middles a clump back through mid-on
back of a length, 85mph and swung away to deep midwicket on the pull
Atkinson to finish his allocation. Not been his best night so far
Strategic timeout, Invincibles looking to make sure they nail these last few sets. Originals need almost 3 RPB, with Overton their last realistic shot of overhauling this target...
full on off, 83mph yorker dug out down the ground. They scamper for two with Hartley struggling at the non-striker's end
high, loopy slower ball, Overton watches it plop down the leg side for a wide
full outside off, pace off and plinked down the ground
In walks Tom Hartley at No. 8
fired full on middle and leg, Holden is hit on the pads heaving across the line... again SCurran thinks he's got him! Not given by Alex Wharf but Billings reviews. And this one was smashing into leg stump! The decision is overturned and Holden's resistance is ended, Invincibles closing in here
slowie, full on leg stump, just 53mph and Overton has to wait for it, whips to deep midwicket
