The record now reads : New Zealand 26, Sri Lanka 18, abandoned 2 and tied one.Umpires Doug Cowie and John Hampshire were officiating in their 60th and 18th match respectively.Chris Harris was playing his 25th match against Sri Lanka. He thus became the most capped New Zealander against Sri Lanka. He was previously at level with John Wright with 24 matches.Chris Nevin became fourth New Zealander to suffer the ignominy of getting out to the first ball of the match when he edged Chaminda Vaas to wicket-keeper Kaluwitharana. Other New Zealanders to suffer this fate are John Wright (v Australia at Wellington on 20-02-1982, John Bracewell (v Australia at Adelaide on 27-01-1986) and Adam Parore (v Pakistan at Auckland on 18-02-2001). In addition Wright was also dismissed to the first legitimate ball in the opening match of 1991-92 World Cup match against Australia at Auckland after Craig McDermott started with two wides.It was the second occasion Chaminda Vaas was dismissing a batsman off the first ball of the match. He had bowled India's Saurav Ganguly off the first ball of the match at Mumbai on 17-05-1997.Mathew Sinclair (118*) scored his second hundred in his 13th match.He is only the eighth New Zealand batsman to score two ODI centuries. The others are: Nathan Astle (9), Martin Crowe (4), Chris Cairns, Stephen Fleming and Glenn Turner (3), Ken Rutherford and Mark Greatbatch (2).Sinclair's innings was the highest by a New Zealander at Sharjah. He bettered his own 117 made against Pakistan just five days ago.Sinclair became only the third New Zealander to score two centuries in a series or tournament. Others to do so for New Zealand are Glenn Turner (171* v East Africa and 114* v India in 1975 World Cup) and Mark Greatbatch (102* & 111 v England in 1990 Texaco Trophy).Sinclair became only the third New Zealander opener to bat through out a complete innings of 50 overs (or more) after Glenn Turner (171* v East Africa at Birmingham on 07-06-1975 and Bruce Edgar (102* v Australia at Melbourne on 01-02-1981).The second wicket partnership of 141 runs between Sinclair and Matthew Bell was New Zealand's best for this wicket against all countries. This obliterated the previous record partnership of 130 runs between Bruce Edgar and Martin Crowe against India at Brisbane on 11-01-1986. The pair quite obviously obliterated the unbroken 126 run-partnership between Glenn Turner and Geoff Howarth at Nottingham on 09-06-1979 - the previous highest partnership for New Zealand for second wicket against Sri Lanka.The partnership was also the highest for New Zealand for any wicket against Sri Lanka putting into shade the 136 run-partnership for the third wicket between Adam Parore and Ken Rutherford at East London on 18-12-1994.Craig McMillan (17 on 6) completed his 1000 runs in floodlit matches. He was playing his 46th match and 42nd innings. McMillan became fourth New Zealander after Nathan Astle (1806 runs from 49 matches), Stephen Fleming (1560 runs from 53 matches) and Chris Harris (1355 runs from 67 matches) and 48th batsman in all to reach this landmark.The wicket of Chris Harris was 15th caught and bowled dismissal for Sanath Jayasuriya. Ironically Chris Harris holds the record of capturing most wickets (26) in this fashion. He is followed by Sri Lankan Muttiah Muralitharan (18), West Indian Roger Harper,India's Anil Kumble,Pakistan's Saqlain Mushtaq (16), Australia's Allan Border.....and now Jayasuriya (15).Romesh Kaluwitharana was dismissed without scoring for the 20th time in his career . Now only Pakistan's Wasim Akram has aggregated more ducks in a career -25. Kaluwitharana moved ahead of another Pakistani Salim Malik who has a tally of 19 ducks from 283 matches.The duck was Kaluwitharana's tenth in floodlit matches. He is now only one short of ODI record of most ducks in floodlit matches which is currently shared by two Australians - Craig McDermott and Steve Waugh.The duck was Kaluwitharana's ninth at this ground. No other batsman has failed to open his account at this ground on more than five occasions.Matthew Sinclair was winning his second Man of the Match, while it was the maiden award for Kyle Mills. It was the third occasion when two New Zealand players shared the award in a ODI. Martin Crowe and Richard Hadlee (v Australia at Dunedin on 18-03-1986) and Nathan Astle and Gavin Larsen (v England at Auckland on 02-03-1997) are the others to do so for New Zealand.
