Are selectors justifying their jobs?

For the fourth successive day, the Pakistan cricket selectors failed to combine to watch the training camp in progress at the National Stadium.

While chairman of selectors Wasim Bari has made a 'visitors' appearance in the last three days, Shafiq Ahmad Papa arrived in town on Wednesday and has been on the scene. Cricketer-turned-actor Mohsin Khan has visited the camp in the past two days but, as usual, has been late. As regards Aqib Javed, his whereabouts are unknown.

The reconstituted selectors have been appointed at hefty salaries. Unconfirmed reports say each selector, barring the chief selector, is being paid Rs40,000 per month besides other additional facilities of TA/DA, five-star accommodation and a rented car for transportation. But the question is whether these selectors are doing justice to their jobs?

Needless to say that poor selections have been one of the prime reasons for Pakistan's four successive home defeats. In the home series against England, the selectors ignored Younis Khan, a success in New Zealand and and England. Waqar Younis, not considered for the first two Tests at home against England is now the captain of the team.
