Australia can boost its LG ICC ODI Championship rating to a new record-high if it beats New Zealand in the series of five One-Day International matches starting in Wellington on Saturday 19 February.
If Australia wins all five matches in New Zealand its rating will rise to 140 points for the first time since the official standings were introduced in October 2002.
If the New Zealand loses all five matches it will fall to third in the official table and its rating will slide from 120 points to 116 points, one point behind Sri Lanka.
A series win for New Zealand will boost its rating to a new record high. If it can win all five matches it will close the gap at the top to a single point with New Zealand on 129 and Australia on 130. A 4-1 home win would leave New Zealand on 126 points to Australia's 132.
It is only 13 months since New Zealand was seventh in the LG ICC ODI Championship with a rating of 102.
In the LG ICC Player Rankings a strong series for Adam Gilchrist, currently fourth, could see him claim top spot in the ODI batting rankings while compatriot Glenn McGrath will be looking to hold on to top spot in the official bowling rankings.
