Cricket loses another soul
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Executive Secretary Tanjeeb Ahsan Saad
has tendered his resignation. Unaware even to his closest friends
Saad, a BUET alumni, assigned 'personal grounds' when he resigned
eight days ago. But, insiders say reasons could be embarrassing for
the board as well as expose the dirt beneath the BCB carpet.
When asked about a report published in some national dailies yesterday
that the board has accepted the resignation of Saad, BCB general
secretary Syed Ashraful Haque confirmed that the board has received
Saad's letter but said it was yet to accept his resignation.
"As far as I am concerned, we have got the letter but neither the
president nor the board has taken any final decision as yet. It will
be discussed in our next meeting on August 21", said Mr. Haque.
Saad was appointed Executive Secretary of the BCB by president Saber
Hossain Chowdhury in September 1996 as the first-ever paid official of
the board.
Meanwhile, when contacted yesterday, Saad insisted that he resigned
only on personal ground.
However, it was gathered that Saad was increasingly unhappy with his
job since the board's elections as he was being cornered by a 'group'
who did not approve of his appointment. It was also learnt that Saad
had expressed his desire to the BCB boss to quit his job on five
different occasions in the past. But he had to reconsider his decision
each time on the request of the BCB president.
Sources said Saad, a former national cricketer, made several attempts
to make up with his adversaries but, having failed ultimately, he
submitted a written resignation letter on August 1.
