Scores: Police 316/7 decl'd, Wanderers 155 & 139
The two outstanding fast bowlers who have done little wrong this
season yesterday fired Police to a predictable victory over
Cockspur Wanderers and back to the top of the points table.
Emmerson Sealy, in the course of his finest ever Division 1
season, and Sylvester Louis, a proven campaigner at this level,
exploited helpful conditions on the way to setting up a victory
by an innings and 22 runs.
Both men grabbed four wickets, and Wanderers, facing a first
innings deficit of 161, were good as beaten at exactly 3:40 p.m
after resuming on 19 without loss.
There was little resistance from the home team apart from a
fighting half-century stand between Mark Sealy and little Marcus
Humphrey.
A hour and 15 minutes into the day, Wanderers had already been
reduced to 89 for six, the damage caused by Louis' three scalps
and Sealy's two.
The first three wickets went down for the addition of one run
and Police took a firm grip of things by removing the positive
Gary Pedro (19) and Gavin Beresford (14), along with Hendy Bryan
in a 20-minute period.
As Humphrey walked to the middle to partner Mark Sealy, 45
minutes were still left before the tea break and there were
thoughts of a victory before the interval.
Sealy and Humphrey, however, defied the bowling for an hour in
adding 50 before their partnership was ended with the
contentious dismissal of Sealy.
Having played much more positively than he did in the first
innings, Sealy was very surprised when he was adjudged to have
provided a leg-side catch to the 'keeper off Duane Davis. His 34
was made in an hour-and-a-half and included five fours.
There was a stand of 20 between Humphrey and Patrick Phillips,
but Emmerson Sealy, well rested, came back to remove both in his
first over of a new spell.
Phillips steered a catch to the 'keeper and Hum-phrey, after
battling for more than an hour-and-a-half for 22, fended a catch
to the forward short-leg.
The end swiftly came.
