He was, however, critical about the up-and-coming fast bowlers doing the rounds on the Indian domestic circuit. In an interview with Yahoo! Cricket he talked about how Indian bowlers need to work on their conditioning and fitness, that way they can avoid any undue stress which can ultimately lead to serious injury. He also spoke about the importance of managing a bowler's workload, pointing out de Lange's situation, where despite being a well-built young man, he was overbowled, which ultimately led to his stress fracture.
Jaipur's status as an IPL venue was secured after a prolonged tussle between the Rajasthan state sports council and the Rajasthan Cricket Association, and the confirmation came just in time for the organisers to start preparing the ground for Rajasthan Royals' home games. However, authorities found some temporary structures erected in the west stand of the Sawai Man Singh Stadium unsafe. Since the stadium is owned by the state sports council, they appointed a three-member committee of structural engineers. A regional Hindi daily reported on Thursday that the committee found that "the temporary stands could be blown away even by a breeze". While the RCA officials feigned ignorance about the issue, Rajasthan Royals were taking no chances. "We are having a meeting with the vendors and we will make sure we get a safety certificate from structural engineers for the stand," a Royals spokesperson said. During the committee's official inspection of the stadium on Thursday, no major glitch was observed and the matter was put to rest.
Kings XI Punjab batsman David Hussey has said that captain Adam Gilchrist and coach Darren Lehmann could lead the side to their maiden title win in the IPL. The pair helmed Deccan Chargers' title run in 2009 and Hussey said their experience was important for the team. "Gilchrist is a class player," Hussey said. "He is a great acquisition. Any team would benefit from his wealth of experience. We are looking up to him to score many runs for us and take catches behind the stumps. Lehmann, as a coach, is great for the franchise. I am hoping that the combination will regenerate the same impact."
In the Times of India, Mark Waugh wrote that Ricky Ponting could finish as leading run-scorer in the IPL. Waugh said Ponting was still hungry for runs and had shown good form while playing the Big Bash League and the Sheffield Shield. He was named Sheffield Shield player of the year this season and was part of the Tasmania team that won the title.
Sunrisers Hyderabad legspinner Amit Mishra revealed to New Indian Express what went wrong last year when he failed to turn up fit for a number of games. "In the last edition I rushed into the IPL after an injury. I was not fully fit. This time I come into the IPL with decent performances in domestic cricket. I will try my best to live up to the expectations and my own reputation," Mishra said, "Being one of the top five bowlers in the IPL gives me great pleasure. I'm feeling confident of doing much better this time around. I always try to be an aggressive leg-spinner. In Twenty20 cricket, a spinner has to learn the art of taking wickets otherwise it is difficult to survive."
