Scorecard
A collective effort from New Zealand's bowlers set up a 24-run win against Australia, their first in the current under-19 tri-series.
Set a target of 226, Australia got off to a steady start but the loss of three quick wickets, two of those by medium pacer Jack Hunter, left them stuttering at 48 for 3. Wicketkeeper Ben McDermott and Alex Gregory, who led the side, steadied the chase with a 68-run fourth-wicket stand. McDermott's wicket in the 31st over, with the score at 116 for 3, triggered another small collapse. The runs dried up for Australia and they were struggling at 147 for 7 in the 41st over. Jake Doran, who was left to bat with the lower order, played a lone hand with an unbeaten 54, as Australia scraped past the 200-run mark.
Earlier, having decided to bat first, New Zealand brushed aside the loss of an early wicket to put up 225 for 9. Opener Rakitha Weerasundara anchored the New Zealand innings with a 105-ball 76, stitching three important stands with Shaun Hicks, Tim Seifert and Ken McClure. Leo Carter and Kyle Jamieson struck some quick runs towards the end of the innings to take the score to 225. Offspinner Cameron Valente was the best bowler for Australia, finishing with figures of 4 for 41 off 10 overs.
