'In my mind I was 100% fit'
Michael Clarke has defended the decision for him to play against Zimbabwe on Sunday after he suffered a hamstring injury soon after landing in the country. Clarke did not play in the first two games but took the field in the third, aggravating his injury while batting and forcing him to leave the tour early.
"I spoke to the doctor and physio in Zimbabwe and I believe we made the right decision," Clarke told reporters on arriving in Sydney on Tuesday. "I would have been really disappointed if I got on a plane without seeing how I was going. In my mind I was 100% fit to perform. There's obviously a deeper issue than a minor hamstring strain that we thought it was."
Clarke also said he had no thoughts of retiring from ODIs after next year's World Cup, despite his injury problems. "It's hard for me to look any further down the track than where I am today," he said, "but I love the game as much as I ever have and the last thing I am thinking about is retiring."
