Paul Collingwood, who has been named in England's 14-man squad for the ICC Champions Trophy, has been ordered to rest after aggravating a knee injury. Collingwood has had problems with his knee for two months, but continued to play county cricket for Durham and in the one-day NatWest Series for England.
"It is a blow for Durham but England want him to be fit," a spokeswoman for Durham told BBC Sport. "They are hoping that with a couple of weeks' rest he will be fine to play in the NatWest Challenge and the Champions Trophy."
After England's Test series against West Indies, Collingwood will join the one-day squad ahead of the NatWest Challenge against India, a warm-up for the Champions Trophy, which starts on September 1.
"Paul has been advised to rest from cricket until the NatWest Challenge," said a spokesman from the ECB. "He's been experiencing soreness and inflammation in his right knee, and we will continue to monitor the situation."
