At Christchurch, March 15, 16, 18, 19, England won by seven wickets. New Zealand put up a good fight for two days, but in the end were well beaten again.
On a fairly slow pitch New Zealand reached 234 before their sixth wicket fell, but were out for the addition of 32. Dowling, Sinclair and Reid played good innings, but nobody really mastered Trueman, who took seven for 75.
England struggled on the second day against a steady attack and New Zealand surprisingly led by 13. They could not maintain their advantage despite a century from Reid. The rest of the batsmen made only 50 between them. Reid batted four hours, five minutes for his 100 made out of 142. He hit thirteen 4's.
England, needing 173 to win, always had the situation in hand. During the match Trueman beat Statham's record of 242 Test wickets and took his total to 250.
