Floodlights on course for Sussex
By Nelson Clare
SUSSEX should get the go-ahead to install floodlights at Hove
next Tuesday. Officers at Brighton and Hove council are
recommending that planning permission is granted to the club for
permanent lights to go up at the County Ground.
The issue will be discussed by the planning committee next
Tuesday, when a decision will be made on the proposed siting of
eight 100ft towers at the ground, each one containing 27 lights.
The council officers' recommendation is that the lights should
not be used for anything other than cricket.
Local residents are keen to avoid events such as concerts and
firework displays being staged at the ground.
Kevin Dean, Derbyshire's left-arm swing bowler, has been rewarded
for an outstanding season with a three-year contract. The
22-year-old is the county's leading wicket-taker this summer,
with 65 dismissals.
The Duke of York will present the major trophies at the
Professional Cricketers' Association annual awards dinner on
Tuesday. He will name the PCA player of the year and PCA young
player of the year, and present the Sheer Instinct Award.
