Chris Gayle will miss the rest of the one-day series in Zimbabwe and could well be ruled out of the first fortnight of the South Africa tour after sustaining a hamstring injury during Sunday's ODI at Harare Sports Club.
Gayle pulled up after completing a run and immediately retired hurt. "It occurred out of the blue as I was going for a quick single with Runako Morton," he wrote in his Cricinfo tour diary.
"I knew immediately that I pulled my right hamstring and I indicated that and went off to start treating it. I don't know how long it will take to heal but I know it has to be treated properly and I can't rush it.
"I'll be undergoing an extensive assessment today after which I'll know more about my prognosis."
Sources close to the side said Gayle would in all likelihood be out for two to three weeks. The team will be captained by Dwayne Bravo in his absence.
