Geoff Marsh to take over as Zimbabwe coach

The Zimbabwe Cricket Union wishes to announce that it has concluded an agreement with Geoffrey Robert Marsh to succeed Carl Rackemann as coach to our the National Team with effect from 1 October 2001 to 30 September 2003, with an option for a renewal for a further year.

Geoff Marsh will use the England tour to Zimbabwe as a hand-over take-over from Carl Rackemann. Carl Rackemann will continue to be the National Coach for the England tour in October 2001.

Geoff Marsh had an illustrious career for Australia, playing in 50 Test Matches scoring 2 854 runs (33.18) including 4 centuries and 38 catches. His First Class career spanned from 1977 to 1993 scoring 11 760 runs (39.46), including 33 centuries, 1 wicket and 133 catches. In the domestic series in Australian in 1989/1990 he made his highest score of 355 not out for Western Australia against South Australia. In One-Day Internationals he played along side Allan Border in 117 matches, scoring 4357 runs (39.97).

Geoff Marsh was born in 1958 in Northam in Western Australia, a farmer's boy from the tiny Western Australian outpost of Wandering.

After his playing days he became a national selector 1999/2000 and then became coach of the Australian side from 1996 to 1999.

The Zimbabwe Cricket Union is delighted to have secured the services of such a qualified man to take over as National Coach from Carl Rackemann and we wish him every success in his new appointment.
