We're at that point in time where everyone's got a foot in the IPL and an eye on the World Cup. The big news last week was World Cup squad announcements, with equal amounts of joy and heartburn from those that made it and those who missed out. Plus, the IPL's headed for its marquee week where the top four teams will face off against each other. It's a lot to catch up on, so here's the lowdown.
Jofra Archer misses initial World Cup cut but set for England debut
England named an unchanged 15 for the ICC's preliminary deadline for squad announcements, but Archer can still make his case for inclusion over the coming weeks. Where do people stand on the Archer question? Here's what some prominent names have said.
South Africa: Hashim Amla in World Cup squad; Reeza Hendricks, Chris Morris miss out
South Africa choose experience over domestic form in picking Hashim Amla. Quinton de Kock is the only specialist wicketkeeper in the squad, with David Miller available as back-up.
Rahul and Karthik in, Pant and Rayudu out of India's World Cup squad
There was no room for Rishabh Pant and Ambati Rayudu in India's 15 for the World Cup, and Rayudu had some feelings about it, though he was later named a standby, along with Pant and Navdeep Saini. What went wrong for Ambati Rayudu? Nagraj Gollapudi breaks it down.
You can get a blow-by-blow account of how the squad announcement went down, as reported by Sidharth Monga on our live blog.
Smith and Warner make World Cup return; Handscomb and Hazlewood out
Australia's problem of plenty meant that Handscomb missed out on selection - which coach Justin Langer acknowledges was tough for the batsman - while the selectors won't risk Hazlewood with his back injury for the World Cup. Who were the other winners and losers from Australia's big day? Andrew McGlashan has the count.
Mohammad Amir left out of Pakistan's World Cup squad
Mohammad Amir, Asif Ali and Mohammad Rizwan are key omissions, while Junaid Khan makes the cut, edging out Usman Shinwari. Amir's had a roller-coaster two years, and while the numbers say one thing, many a Pakistani heart is at odds with that. Danyal Rasool says Amir has one more chance before the World Cup to beat his bowling blues.
Sri Lanka: Thirimanne, Siriwardana, Vandersay picked in World Cup squad
Not selected, meanwhile, are wicketkeeper-batsman Niroshan Dickwella, offspinner Akila Dananjaya, openers Danushka Gunathilaka and Upul Tharanga, as well as Dinesh Chandimal. Meanwhile, Dimuth Karunaratne, whose last ODI was in the 2015 World Cup, was the left-field captaincy pick. Andrew Fidel Fernando chronicles Sri Lanka's many captaincy woes that led to Karunaratne's selection.
Bangladesh pick ODI newbie Abu Jayed for World Cup
Taskin Ahmed and Shafiul Islam might feel upset at missing out, but the uncapped Jayed has been Bangladesh's most improved paceman in recent times, says Mohammad Isam. Batsman Mosaddek Hossain makes a comeback to the 15 for the showpiece event.
