India's 1-0 home Test series victory over South Africa has lifted it to third place in the ICC Test Championship.
This is the first time that India has been in the top three of the ICC Test Championship since it was launched in May 2001. India's new rating of 107 is also its highest rating over this period.
India now trails England by two points and with an away series against Bangladesh before England travels to South Africa, India has a strong opportunity to further close the gap. A 2-0 victory over Bangladesh would boost India's rating to 108 points.
Australia's comfortable home series win against New Zealand has extended its lead at the top of the table. The 2-0 victory means that Australia will end a second consecutive calendar year leading the official table by a large margin with a rating of 130.
The defeats round off a disappointing year of Test cricket for South Africa and New Zealand which has seen their ratings fall by nine points and 11 points respectively.
