Stephen Fleming, the New Zealand captain, has sustained a finger injury while warming up for a match between Wellington and Central Districts.
Fleming was hit on his left middle finger during fielding practice and Lindsay Crocker, New Zealand's general manager, said in a statement that he had broken the bone at the base of the finger. "Stephen was able to bat in the match but it will be 24 hours before we know the extent of the injury."
It was uncertain for how long Fleming would be sidelined. He had missed the first two matches of the recent Chappell-Hadlee Trophy after undergoing a facial surgery to remove a tumour. The team for the series against Sri Lanka, beginning on December 31, will be announced on Friday.
