CRICKET: The astute captaincy of Jamaica Under-19 all-rounder
Tamar Lambert was on show yesterday as he piloted Jonathan Grant
High to a 36-run victory over St. George's College in their
Sunlight Cup Group B semi-final match-up at Emmet Park.
In a repeat of last year's semi-final at the same venue, home
team St. George's College after struggling to 72 for six at
stumps on Monday night, in reply to Jonathan Grant's modest 132
all out, found runs hard to come by as they could only muster a
further 24 runs before they were bundled out for a paltry 96
runs with more than an hour remaining before lunch yesterday.
Lambert kept the pressure on the hosts yesterday by bowling
eight overs for just two runs and claiming one wicket to end
with two wickets for 29 runs from 16 overs which included seven
maidens, while leg-spinner Leon Rodney who had ripped through
the top order on Monday had three wickets for 14 runs from ten
overs.
In the other semi-final at Bridgeport Comprehensive, an
all-round performance from captain Carlton Baugh Jnr saw
Wolmer's Boys cruise to victory over host Bridgeport
Comprehensive by 30 runs.
Scores: Wolmer's 183 (Baugh 109; Christopher Hopwood 6-44);
Bridgeport Comprehensive 153 (Martin Walker 51, Ryan Clarke 47;
Baugh 4-44, Anthony Miller 2-38).
In today's semi-finals, Waterford Comprehensive host St.
Catherine High and St. Andrew Technical oppose Kingston College
at Bumper Hall. All matches start at 10:30 a.m.
