The Lancashire Cricket Board has been notified this week by the Confederation of Lancashire Cricket Leagues that after consultations with their clubs, the Confederation is totally against the introduction of a Premier League or Premier Leagues in Lancashire.
The Board, who had arranged to meet the Confederation at Old Trafford on Thursday 11th June 1998 following Annual Leagues Reception, are extremely disappointed that this consultation process, which began some time ago, will not continue. The Confederation's decision was taken on June 3rd at a meeting attended by 10 of the 24 leagues affiliated to the L.C.B. The Lancashire Cricket Board know that there are many ambitious clubs and players throughout the County. It is the policy of the E.C.B. and L.C.B. to create Premier competitions at the earliest opportunity. L.C.B. Chairman John Brewer said: "Lancashire must not be left behind as the national Premier League structure is created. The L.C.B. will continue to support all our affiliated clubs in the development of the recreational game."
The Chairman of the L.C.B. Premier League Advisory Committee added: "I am sure that the Board will continue to address this issue, and I am confident that a Premier League competition will become a reality."
