Great news from Brazil, with the emergence of a new club based at Curitba.
Connected to the HSBC Bank, it is likely to make its debut soon against Brazil's only other established club, Sao Paulo.
There was a club based at Brasilia, but it lost the use of its ground and its existence has not been verified lately.
Cricket is also believed to be played intermittently in Manaus, capital of Amazonia.
On a smaller scale yet, Indian traders along the Paraguay border are believed to be playing against each other with a tennis ball while children in the streets play a derivation caled 'Taco' meaning 'bat'.
The highlight of the Brazilian season will be the visit of the Chilean national team next Easter.
As well, UK club Romany will be received in February.
If your club would like to play in Brazil, please contact John Milton: jmilton@usp.br
The cricket season in Chile will be one of the busiest ever.
The British Airways team will visit this weekend, while Lomas CC of Buenos Aires will also make the trip in March.
The Lomas trip will be a reciprocation of the Prince of Wales CC visit to Argentina in the first week of December where it will play Lomas Second Eleven plus another club side.
Already, Prince of Wales has received Old Bedfordians (UK) on October 31/December 1.
When not receiving visiting teams, intra club matches will be played among the local expatriates.
Tim Messner, the Chilean Cricket Association Development Officer, has started a coaching programme among schools and says the response has been very enthusiastic.
Tim can be contacted at croa@ctcinternet.cl if your club would like to play cricket in Chile.
If you like cricket with altitude (yes not attitude), then Lima, Peru would be the place for you.
The Lima CC would love to receive teams, especially in late February to early April. Vivian Ash is your man: vash@newton.edu.pe
At this stage, it will be a quiet Peruvian season with no visiting teams or trips away. It is expected the local expats will play about eight or 10 matches amongst themselves.
