Martin Guptill's 100-ball 105 propelled New Zealand past a sizeable Bangladesh total of 288, to register yet another win in their World Cup 2015 campaign at Hamilton on Friday.
Brendon McCullum won the toss and chose to bowl first and New Zealand's feared new-ball attack dismissed Bangladesh' openers Tamim Iqbal and Imrul Kayes in the first ten overs for just 27.
Soumya Sarkar and Mahmudullah added 60 runs for the third wicket and helped steady the Bangladesh innings.
Sarkar fell for 51 in the 28th over, just as Bangladesh looked to switch gears, but Mahmudullah continued his good form, that saw him score a century against England in their earlier match.
He hit 12 fours and three sixes and remained unbeaten on 128 from 123 balls at the end of the innings. Shakib Al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim and Sabbir Rahman added to Bangladesh' cause and helped them post 288 in their innings.
New Zealand needed a strong start but they lost McCullum and Kane Williamson in the first five overs for just 33. Guptill remained unfazed by the early double-blow.
He and Ross Taylor added 131 runs for the third wicket. The partnership helped steady New Zealand's innings and brought them closer to the target. Guptill eventually fell in the 31st over, when New Zealand stood at 164. He had hit 11 fours and two sixes in his match-winning knock. Grant Elliott, Corey Anderson and eventually Daniel Vettori took their side home with an over to spare.
"It's been a long time but I am glad I was able to pull through in the end. I felt pretty good most of the summer. There were a couple of innings where I didn't feel quite fluent. But Napier, and now here, I felt a lot better. We have a lot of belief in the team, and the way we have executed our skills has also been pretty special. Nice batting with Ross to create a little partnership. Always good batting with him. He is a quality player and I always learn from him," Guptill said.
