In a new innovation for the MILO Trophy competition in Canterbury this schools from the North Canterbury zone will take part in a one-day cricket tournament on Thursday at Dudley Park in Rangiora.
The competition will get underway at 9am and teams will play four games throughout the day, with the competition finishing at 3pm. Teams representing Amberley, Cheviot, Loburn, Ohoka, Waipara, Rangiora Borough, St Joseph's Rangiora, Swannanoa and Waikuku Schools will all come together for this cricketing extravaganza.
Games will be 10 overs per side, with each player having to bowl an over and each pair bat for two overs. Canterbury Country Cricket and Canterbury Cricket will be providing umpires for each of the fixtures. The winning side will go through to the knockout phase of the competition and will look to continue the strong tradition of Country Schools, who have won two out of three tournaments.
Last year's overall MILO Trophy winners Amberley will go in to the Rangiora tournament as favourites but are sure to face still competition from St Joseph's Rangiora and Rangiora Borough.
