Nayan Mongia is making it to Dhaka after all. The 30-year-old has been picked to replace the injured Saba Karim, who has been ruled out of the Asia Cup after being injured below his left eye on Tuesday in India's game against Bangladesh.
"Mongia was scheduled to reach Dhaka at 3 pm today. He left by an early morning flight from here to Delhi. We got the message from the team management asking for the replacement late last night," BCCI secretary Jaywant Lele said from Baroda.
Mongia, ignored for one-day internationals after last year's World Cup, was among the 30 probables who underwent a conditioning camp for the Asia Cup at Pune earlier this month. He will be available to play from India's second scheduled match against Sri Lanka on June 1.
Meanwhile, Karim, who received a blow under his eye when a ball from Anil Kumble which deflected off Bangladesh batsman Habibul Basher's pad yesterday, is being rushed to the well known Shankar Netralaya eye clinic in Chennai for emergency treatment.
"He can't recognise people, it seems. I have already despatched a fax to Shankar Netralaya to take his case on an emergency basis. He will be taken to Chennai from Calcutta later today," Lele said.
