The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has awarded the production rights for international and domestic matches to Nimbus Sports for the next four years.
"Nimbus Sport quoted less in both the HDTV-based package and the SDTV-based package and was awarded the production contract beating contender TWI," said the BCCI. "With Nimbus Sport's excellent track record and very competitive cost, BCCI has secured for itself and its fans, a fantastic level of television coverage never before seen in India cricket," said Lalit Modi, BCCI vice president and marketing sub-committee chairman.
The BCCI said it had managed to get a fixed cost-price for each day's production for the next four years and the figure was much less than the amount quoted for the recent one-day series against Sri Lanka and South Africa. Accordingly, the board will now pay Nimbus around Rs. 43.2 lakh (US$ 97,726) for SDTV production cost per day, while the HDTV production charges works out to Rs. 45.9 lakh (US$103,834).
Three companies had submitted the tenders for the production rights and Nimbus and TWI had the requisite qualifications.
