Wednesday's Nineth WPCA Annual General Meeting at Newlands is the quietest since unification with only one election taking place. The four top executive posts were not opposed when nominations closed with Arnold Bloch (President), Sadick Emeran (Vice-President), Haroun Lorgat (Treasurer) and Stan Fish (Local Leagues) being elected.
Nine nominations were received for eight vacancies as ordinary executive members. These nominees in alphabetical order are: Advocate Norman Arendse SC, Brad Bing, Mohamed Bagus, Shawn Christiansen, Prof Cyril O'Connor, Mohamed Ebrahim, Solomon Makosana, Prof Andre Odendaal and Junior Sokhanyile. Long serving officials Erik van Vlaanderen and Mickey Giles have announced their retirement. Former WPCA President Percy Sonn is not available due to UCB commitments.
No ballot will take place for the election of the Local Leagues Committee. Seven nominations were received for the seven vacancies. The committee is Len Bailey, Trevor Blake, Unis Ebrahim, Mark Giger, Aziz Samaai, Patrick Wessels and Beresford Williams.
Several constitutional changes have also been proposed the most significant being the future role of the selectors. It has been proposed that in future the coaches take a greater responsibility for the performances of the WP A side and that only one outside selector serve on the selection panel of the A team. Three selectors will still serve as a panel for the selection of the B team.
