Scorecard
Marcus North's unbeaten 118 was the highlight of the opening day as Western Australia cruised to 4 for 345 against Tasmania at the Bellerive Oval. Having been sent in by Daniel Marsh, the Tasmania captain, Western Australia were rarely troubled, with Michael Hussey (82) and Murray Goodwin (77) also making weighty contributions.
North used up only 147 deliveries for his innings, and at the close, Ryan Campbell (29 not out) was keeping him company. Western Australia lost Justin Langer (15) early, and Chris Rogers (18) soon after lunch, and it was left to Hussey - who made his one-day debut for Australia last weekend - to provide the early impetus. Once he was dismissed, North and Goodwin added 148 at a fair clip to ensure that the advantage wasn't squandered.
For Tasmania, who are currently second in the Pura Cup standing, Gerald Denton (2 for 68) and Andrew Downton (2 for 84) were the wicket-takers on a disappointing day.
