Pakistan squeak to victory

Scotland's impressive start to the season continued as they ran Pakistan uncomfortably close in the opening match of their one-day tour. Pakistan eventually snuck off with a one-wicket victory, thanks to a fine allround performance from Shoaib Malik, who took 3 for 17 in Scotland's modest total of 169, before top-scoring with 52 in Pakistan's shaky reply.

Scotland owed their total to a gutsy 36 from their opener, Greig Williamson, who overcame the shock of losing Rahul Dravid, who was dismissed first ball by Shabbir Ahmed, to add 47 for the third wicket with Scotland's other import, the South African Jon Kent. Gregor Maiden rounded off the innings with an enterprising 31 from 34 balls.

Pakistan's reply began shakily, with Mohammad Hafeez and Yaseer Ahmed falling early, but Imran Nazir steadied the ship with 38, before Shoaib guided the tail to victory with an unbeaten half-century
