PCB appoints two Aussies for NCA

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Monday announced the appointment of an Australian duo who will assist the youngsters at the National Cricket Academy (NCA).

Daryl Foster was rehired as bowling coach while Trevor Chappell was appointed as fielding coach.

The PCB, in a statement, further said it was planning to appoint former West Indies trainer Dennis Waight, another Australian, for the national team.

Ironically, the three Australians have been appointed in the background that the Australian Cricket Board (ACB) has all, but cancelled a scheduled tour to Pakistan this October because of security concerns.

"This trio of Aussie professionals are all highly qualified in their area of expertize, and their services are likely to make a major impact in enhancing the competence level of Pakistan cricket," a PCB statement said.

Legendary Hanif Mohammad, Zaheer Abbas and Javed Miandad will also be asked to polish the skills of young batters when the academy resumes in due course.

In an another development, the PCB retained the senior and junior selection committees. But reversed its decision of having paid selectors. "It was also decided to retain both the senior and junior selection committee s separate entitles, who would perform their duties on honorary basis," the PCB said.

The senior selection committee is headed by Wasim Bari with Aqib Javed, Mohsin Khan and Shafiq Ahmad as the paid selectors. The junior selection was headed by Zaheer Abbas with Rashid Khan, Sultan Rana and Farrukh Zaman as paid employees.

The PCB also decided in principle to neither recognize or patronize any cricket coaching camps or academies being set up by various people.

"Since the PCB is planning to establish a coaching centre under its own aegis right down to every district level under the Vision 2005 programme, it is no longer feasible for the PCB to help out in any way independent academies or coaching camp," the statement added.
