Kevin Pietersen has been added to England's 15-man one-day squad for the forthcoming series against South Africa, following a successful tour of Zimbabwe in December.
Pietersen, 24, will fly out on Monday with the rest of England's specialist one-day players after the England selectors announced he had been added to their 15-man squad.
England will play seven one-dayers against South Africa, starting on January 30 at Johannesburg. There is a warm-up match against South Africa A on January 28.
"Kevin had an encouraging start to his international career in Zimbabwe," said David Graveney, the chairman of selectors, "and we feel that his inclusion will give the captain and coach another option if they decide a different balance to the side is required."
Pietersen played in all four ODIs against Zimbabwe, striking 104 quick runs in three innings, and he was only dismissed once.
