*Nand Kishore slams double century
Continuing where he left off on Day One, Hyderabad opener Nand Kishore
scored 214, further tormenting Karnaka's bowlers on Day Two of their
Ranji Trophy league match at Secunderabad.
Although his partner Daniel Manohar fell early in the day, Nand
Kishore put up significant partnerships with Anirudh Singh and Arjun
Yadav before finally falling with the score on 425. He made his 214
off 407 balls, hitting 35 fours and spending more than nine hours at
the crease.
Yadav himself went on to make 89 before falling as the last wicket.
Replying to their rivals' mammoth 577, Karnataka openers played out
four overs before the close of play, knowing that they could never
hope to win this match and would even struggle to draw it.
*Bahutule shines on Day One
Running through Maharashtra's batting line-up with his leg-spinners,
Sairaj Bahutule returned figures of 5-69 as the visitors collapsed to
216 all out in their Ranji Trophy league match against Mumbai at
Mumbai.
Winning the toss, Maharashtra looked to post a big total in the first
innings. Its batsmen, however, failed to post large scores, and only
Kaushik Aphale (51) even got past the 50-mark. Paras Mhambrey,
supporting Bahutule, picked three wickets.
In reply, Mumbai were 31 for no loss at stumps, with openers Vinayak
Mane and Sameer Dighe unbeaten on 15 and 14 respectively.
*Gujarat collapse on Day One
Unable to capitalise on being inserted by Baroda, Gujarat collapsed to
212 all out on Day One of their Ranji Trophy league match at Vadodara.
Although the visitors started off well, none of the batsmen were able
to convert starts into big scores. Only skipper Mukund Parmar offered
any resistance, and he too fell, having made 46. Kirat Damani made a
quickfire 43 lower down the order, but the runs failed to boost
Gujarat to a significant total.
For Baroda, Tushar Arothe and Shekhar Joshi took three wickets apiece,
hastening the end of the first innings. In their batting reply,
current Ranji champions Baroda were 8 for no loss at stumps, with both
openers unbeaten on four.
*Uttar Pradesh batsmen fail on Day One
Pritam Gandhe, bowling his off-breaks with vicious effect, picked six
wickets as Uttar Pradesh collapsed in their first innings against
Vidarbha on Day One of their Ranji Trophy league match at Kanpur.
Aside from Uttar Pradesh skipper Gyanendra Pandey, who made 52, none
of the batsmen could make sizeable scores or put up match-winning
partnerships. Gandhe capitalised on this, returning innings figures of
27.1-7-55-6.
Replying to their rivals' score of 210, Vidarbha lost opener Vivek
Naidu before reaching 14/1 by the close of play.
*Tejinder Pal Singh and S Raza Ali make merry
Winning the toss, Railways ensured that they took full advantage of
it, reaching 381/4 by the close of play on Day One of their Ranji
Trophy league match against Madhya Pradesh at Indore.
Although the Railways openers fell soon, followed by the in-form Yere
Goud, S Raza Ali and Tejinder Pal Singh put on 326 runs for the fourth
wicket, both scoring centuries in the process.
Raza Ali, the first to fall, made 148 off 210 balls, with 19 fours and
three sixes. His partner, however, continued in the presence of
skipper Abhay Sharma. Both batsmen were unbeaten at stumps, with
Sharma making 10 and Tejinder Pal Singh on 186 off 280 balls, with 23
fours and three sixes.
