Phil Simmons, the former West Indies allrounder, is expected to be unveiled as the new Ireland coach on Monday evening. He will take over from the South African Adrian Birrell who will leave his post after next year's World Cup in the Caribbean.
The Belfast Telegraph reports that Simmons was the unanimous choice of the Irish Cricket Union's interview panel. They are now just awaiting the meeting of the finance committee before making a formal announcement.
Simmons, who played 26 Tests and 143 one-day internationals for West Indies between 1987 and 1999, has previously coached Zimbabwe before they left the Test arena.
