SRI LANKA SPORTS NEWS AT-A-GLANCE

*A 16-member England `A' cricket team is scheduled to arrive in
Colombo in mid January on a six-week tour of Sri Lanka. England
`A' will be captained by Warwickshire's Nick Knight and will
have two other national `caps' in the squad in M.Ealham (Kent)
and B.C. Hollioake (Surrey).
England `A' is due to arrive in Colombo on January 12,
tentatively, after playing a few matches in Kenya. The team will
be coached by former England batsman Mike Gatting and managed by
ex-England captain Graham Gooch. The other members of the
16-member squad are D.A. Cosker, S.P. James (both from
Glamorgan), A. Flintoff (Lancashire), A.F. Giles (Warwickshire),
P.M.Hutchison, C.E.Silverwood (both from Yorkshire) D.L.Maddy,
J.Ormond (both from Leicestershire), O.A.Shah, D.S.Nesh (both
from Middlesex), J.C.Powll (Essex), D.J. Sales
(Northemptonshire) and wicket keeper C.M.W. Read
(Gloucestershire).
Weerasiri good double
A good double by former Sri Rahula College cricketer Sumedha
Weerasiri who captured 5 for 34 and also top scored with 54 (6
fours) helped Kandy Cricket Club to obtain first innings points
over Saracens Cricket Club in their Board of Control's under 24
cricket tournament match played at Police grounds, Kandy.
Saracens CC 94 all out in 41 overs (D. Dharmawardena 24, N.
Senaviratne 15, L. Edirisooriya 25, S. Weerasiri 5 for 34, N.
Ekanayaka 1 for 21) and 132 for 6 wickets in 50.1 overs (D.
Dharmawardena 45, S. Gunaratne 18, A. Cader 21, R. Jayashantha
22 not out, R. Fernando 11 not out, S. Weerasiri 3 for 55).
Kandy CC 228 for 8 decl. in 52 overs (M. Liyanage 32, Ruwan
Sakkalasuriya 20, S. Ruhunuhewa 20, S. Weerasiri 54, A.
Ruhunuhewa 29, H. Basnayake 50, N. Senaviratne 6 for 100).
Liyanage, Pinnaduwa fine 3rd wicket stand
A fine stand of 97 for the third wicket between Niresh Liyanage
84 (12 fours, 3 sixers) and Amila Pinnaduwa 72 (7 fours) for St.
Anthony's College, Katugastota, was the highlight of their inter
school cricket match against Vidyartha College, which ended in a
draw at Katugastota on Saturday.
Antonians had a good chance of pulling off an outright win but
heavy rain which fell around 1.45 p.m. put paid to any chances
of play being resumed.
Skipper Mahes Pallihakkara bowling his fastish off breaks took 5
for 52.
