Second defeat for Sussex University
The visiting Sussex University cricket team suffered their second
defeat on the 1998 tour of Sri Lanka when they lost to Gampaha
District Under-19 team by 71 runs in their one day limited over tour
match played at the Air Force Grounds, Katunayake last evening.
Batting first, the home team made 230 for 8 in 47 overs with Sanjeev
Arangalle (53), Ranga Dias (43) and Mohammed Khan (37) making the
chief contributions. In reply, Sussex University team was shot out for
159 in 46 overs. M. Tharaka and N. Gunatillake had three wickets each
for the Gampaha District team.
Scores:
Gampaha District 230 for 8 in 47 overs. (S. Arangalle 53, R. Dias 43,
M. Khan 37, L. Chintana 19, C. Delpachitra 16, A. Salma 3 for 19).
University of Sussex 159 in 46 overs. (A. Salman 39, C. Austin 32, W.
Chen 19, R. Dilhara 3 for 13, M. Tharaka 3 for 23, N. Gunatillake 3

Lanka cavaliers at Ambalangoda
Lanka Cavaliers led by Sri Lanka's first Test captain Bandula
Warnapura travel to Ambalangoda to conduct their 11th Outstation
Cricket Program next weekend at the invitation of Rio Sports Club of
Ambalangoda which will be held at the Urban Council grounds.
On Saturday 12th a Coaching Clinic will be held for the students in
the area where about 200 students from 15 schools in the Ambalangoda,
Balapitiya, Elpitiya, Karandeniya and Ratgama electorates are expected
to participate. The Coaching Clinic will be in three parts and consist
of a lecture by Bandula Warnapura before the lunch break and a
practice session will follow in the afternoon.
At the end of the Clinic a Video analysis of talented players filmed
during the practise session will be done with a view to rectifying any
defects they may have. On Sunday 13th a 35 over match will be played
between Cavaliers and an Invitation XI team. At the end of the
programme, Cavaliers will present Cricket Materials for the
development of the game in the area.
