Sri Lanka Schools: Ananda out to retain Dr N M Perera Trophy
Chris Dhambarage
Ananda College will be making a determined effort to retain the Dr.
N.M. Perera trophy when they take on their traditional rivals Nalanda
in their 25th annual limited over cricket encounter at the SSC
grounds, Maitland Place on Sunday.
The Anandians won last year's game quite convincingly at the R.
Premadasa Stadium and will go in as favourites following their
impressive performance in the Big Match played last week at the same
venue.
The cynosure of all eyes will be on Tilina Kandambi who will be out
for a repeat performance having compiled a superb century in the Big
Match. In addition the Anandians will be hoping that last years
skipper Lahiru Chaturanga will be back in the side having missed last
week's encounter due to an injury. But they certainly have a strong
batting line up in the form of Lakshan Fernando, Maduranga
Mallawarachchi and Muthumudalige Pushpakumara who are all capable of
making good contributions.
The Nalandians no doubt have a tough task and will need a great team
effort if they are to make an impact in this encounter. Even then
skipper Niranjan Kumara, Mevan Porage, Kelum Gangodawila and Pradeep
Hadigalla are their key players who are expected to play a dominant
role in this important fixture.
