Sri Lanka: Thirty concrete wickets to be opened

Under the program launched by the Sri Lanka Board of Control for
Cricket headed by Thilanga Sumathipala of taking cricket to rural
areas, arrangements have been made to open 120 concrete wickets
throughout the country.
According to the programme new concrete wickets were opened in
Anuradhapura, Kekirawa, Minneriya, Habarana by Messrs. Thilanga
Sumathipala, Anuruddha Polonnowita, Malcolm Perera, Kumar Dharmasena
and Ravindra Pushpakumara. Already 30 concrete wickets have been
constructed to be opened in Kandy, Kegalle and Nuwara Eliya Districts
by the Zonal Cricket Association.
These 30 concrete wickets will be opened on October 5 by Vice Captain
of the Sri Lanka team Aravinda de Silva, President of the Board of
Control of Cricket Thilanga Sumathipala. Kandy Cricket Association
has made all arrangements for the opening of those wickets.
Opening will take place at Kandy Police Grounds at 9.00 a.m., St.
Sylvester's College at 9.15 a.m., Sri Sumangala Vidyalaya at 9.30
a.m., Vidyartha College 10.00 a.m., Sri Rahula College at 10.30 a.m.,
Madina MV at 12.00 noon and Wattegama at 1.00 p.m.
These new wickets will be given to any sports club to be used free of
charge. President of the Kandy Zonal Cricket Association Thilina
Tennekoon, Secretary Janaka Pathirana, Vice President Deva Amunugama,
Secretary of the District Association Harold Ranasinghe and District
Coach Sunil Fernando also are expected to participate in these
opening ceremonies.
