Vaughan replaces injured Pringle
Chris Pringle`s recall to international cricket has been put on hold after the medium-pace bowler`s late withdrawal with injury from the tour to Sharjah and Pakistan next month.
Pringle`s misfortune is an unexpected bonus for fellow Aucklander Justin Vaughan, who was the unlucky omission when the 15- man team was originally named last month.
Pringle was on the outer last season with selection panel convener and coach Glenn Turner. He came back into favour with the return of Ross Dykes as selection chief and a pledge to have reformed some wayward ways which led to his temporary suspension from the New Zealand team two seasons ago.
Pringle has bone spurs on the ankle joint which require removal. It is expected he will be bowling again in six to eight weeks after arthroscopic surgery.
Dykes said Pringle was unaware he had the problem and had been untroubled by it until the final day of the training camp in Christchurch last week.
"At the time it was not thought to be serious, but after consultation with an orthopaedic surgeon he has been ruled out."
Vaughan, 29, a medium-pace bowler in the Gavin Larsen mould, will also lengthen the batting order. While Vaughan missed selection in the side which went to the World Cup last season, he performed well in the West Indies when called to replace Shane Thomson.
Vaughan will join the New Zealand team for its final camp in Christchurch next week. The injury situation with Danny Morrison (groin) and Blair Pocock (shoulder) will be clarified next week.
