At Adelaide, January 26, 2005 (day/night). Australia won by 73 runs. Australia 6 pts. Toss: Australia.
Collins befuddled the Australian batsmen again, but their bowlers delivered an Australia Day victory in an all-round display of awesome resilience. Though Clarke gleaned 12 from the first over of a hot afternoon, Collins bent the ball subtly and cut a swathe through the top of the batting. Katich imposed some order, but it was Lee and Gillespie who turned the match, adding 73 in 12 overs. Both struck sixes (Lee from a comical fall-down cover-drive) and neither was troubled once Collins concluded his one-day career-best spell. Suddenly facing a larger target than expected, West Indies subsided tamely. Lee twice had raucous lbw appeals turned down when he was on a hat-trick. Significantly, ABC Radio abandoned its normal commitment to cricket and broadcast Lleyton Hewitt's quarter-final at the Australian Open tennis.
Man of the Match: B. Lee. Attendance: 26,539.
