Gautam Gambhir, the Kolkata Knight Riders captain, has said he was disappointed by the problems the felicitation ceremony for his team at Eden Gardens caused for the public. Knight Riders had won their second IPL in Bangalore on June 1 and were felicitated the next day in Kolkata.
Huge crowds of around 60,000 turned up on Monday to witness the spectacle and mounted police were needed to try and maintain order.
"I must say I was disappointed by the inconvenience KKR's felicitation ceremony caused to Kolkatans. As it is cricket fans in India, who are the most important stakeholders, are not treated well," Gambhir wrote in his column for Hindustan Times. "To make matters worse there was lathicharge on innocents. God-willing my KKR team wins many more trophies but as far as I am concerned we're done with such felicitations."
