West Indies 'A' cricket team, led by Test veteran Ian Bishop, will
arrive in Dhaka on November 5 on an eleven-day tour of Bangladesh,
Bangladesh Cricket Board general secretary Syed Ashraful Huq said
yesterday.
The Caribbeans will visit Bangladesh before their month-long tour of
India which starts from November 15. During their first tour of
Bangladesh, the West Indies 'second string' side will play a
three-day match and two one-dayers against Bangladesh at the
Bangabandhu National Stadium. Besides, another limited-over match may
be played in Rajshahi, according to Mr. Huq.
Bishop, the 30-year old Trinidadian, who is out of favour with the
West Indies selectors since early this year because of his poor form
and is now fighting to regain his place in the Caribbean mainstream,
is one of the five in the 15-man squad who have experience of playing
the game at its highest level, in Tests.
Rawl Lewis of the Winward Island and three Barbadians - right-hand
opening batsman Sherwin Campbell, left-handed Floyd Reifer and
wicketkeeper Courtney Browne - are the other four cricketers. Two in
the side - Carl Tuckett and Neil McGarrell, played ODIs against
England early this year.
Besides, for Wavell Hinds and Reon King, who toured Bangladesh way
back in 1995 as members of the West Indies under-19 team, this will
be their second trip to the sub-continent.
The squad:
Ian Bishop (captain), Sherwin Campbell ( vice-captain), Richard Smith,
Wavell Hinds, Floyd Reifer, Keith Semple, Ramnaresh Sarwan, Adrian
Griffith, Wayne Phillip, Courtney Browne, Carl Tuckett, Neil
McGarrell, Rawl Lewis, Pedro Collins and Reon King.
