West Indies v Bangladesh 2009

A review of West Indies v Bangladesh, 1st ODI, 2009

At Roseau, Dominica, July 26, 2009. Bangladesh won by 52 runs. Toss: West Indies. One-day international debuts: T. M. Dowlin, N. T. Pascal, D. M. Richards.
This was the first international staged in Dominica, at the two-year-old Windsor Park stadium, and a wicket fell to the very first ball, from Roach, when Tamim Iqbal edged to the keeper. But though Roach bagged five victims, West Indies were rarely in contention. Mohammad Ashraful returned to the form that had eluded him in the Tests, Shakib Al Hasan retained his, and Mahmudullah hit the only two sixes in a challenging total. In response to home coach John Dyson's pleas, the head groundsman had promised a pitch with pace and bounce; in the event, it was little different to those in the two Tests, and West Indies were again undone by Bangladesh's four spinners. Handed the new ball, slow left-armer Abdur Razzak, who had joined the tourists for the one-day series, trapped Richards with his first legitimate delivery, and finished with four for 39. Only Devon Smith, recalled after his omission from the Tests, and Bernard batted with any confidence.
Man of the Match: Abdur Razzak.
