Western Warriors teams for Victorian clashes announced

The WA selectors have announced sides to take on the Victorian Bushrangers in Mercantile Mutual Cup (January 2, day/night) and Pura Cup (January 4-7) clashes at the WACA Ground early in 2001.

With injuries to fast bowlers Brad Williams and Matthew Nicholson, all-rounder Duncan Spencer has been called from outside the 2000-01 Western Warriors squad to play the Mercantile Mutual Cup clash against Victoria.

The 28-year-old Melville right arm fast/right hand batsman played four domestic one-day matches and eight first-class matches after making his first-class debut for WA in 1993-94.

The WA selectors have made two changes for the Pura Cup clash with opener Ryan Campbell making way for Test batsman Damien Martyn in the WA 12.

Former Zimbabwe Test batsman is expected to be promoted up the order to open with Hussey, while rookie batsman Marcus North retains his place after top-scoring in the clash against the New South Wales.

Right arm medium pace bowler Stuart Karppinen (27) has also been included in the WA squad in place of spinner Brad Hogg.

If Martyn is required in the Australian side for the fourth Ansett Australia Test in Melbourne, starting on 26 December, WA selectors will make the relevant changes.
