Charles F. Broome became the first team to reach the semifinals of the Piton
Malta Herman Griffith Primary Schools' Cricket Competition yesterday.
Left-arm seamer, Davian Brancker, was the wrecker as he bagged five wickets in
3.4 overs at the Dover Playing Field, Christ Church.
After winning the toss on a soft pitch, the Government Hill team sent their
opponents, St. Patrick's Primary into bat and they could only muster 29 runs in
10.4 overs.
In reply, Charles F. Broome, despite a few scares, knocked off the runs in 5.5
overs to advance to the last four.
It was in the second over that Doniko Perry captured the first wicket, as he had
the St. Patrick's captain Micah St. Hill, out caught at short cover.
Kemar Harte tried to repair the innings as he struck a four and collected a few
more runs in the outfield, but wickets just kept falling around him.
Many of the batsmen were fooled by the slow nature of the pitch as they played
over the ball way too early.
Harte would eventually be the topscorer with 11 after he was run out late in the
St. Patrick's innings.
In their turn at the crease Charles F. Broome weathered an early storm after
being 17 for five, thanks to their captain William Clarke, who struck two fours
late in the innings to seal St. Patrick's fate.
