England XI v Hong Kong

Wisden's review of the tour match, England XI v Hong Kong

15-Apr-2017
At Abu Dhabi (Nursery 1), November 8, 2015.England XI won by 161 runs.‡England XI 342-8(50 overs) (A. D. Hales 67, M. M. Ali 76); Hong Kong 181(43 overs) (Babar Hayat 78; D. J. Willey4-43).
Both sides chose from 13 players. The ECB came in for some criticism when it was decided not to elevate this game to official ODI status. But Hong Kong had been a late replacement for a UAE XI, and said they did not expect the English authorities to fund the match costs required for an official game, thought to be around £50,000. Jason Roy (42) and Alex Hales gave England a good, and later Ali smashed 76 from 36 balls, with five sixes and six fours. Hong Kong's batsmen struggled, apart from Babar Hayat, who hit eight fours; he added 81 with 18-year-old wicketkeeper Chris Carter, who made 34.
