India have suffered a double blow ahead of the Adelaide Test. Harbhajan Singh has been ruled out of the rest of the tour with a recurring finger injury, and Zaheer Khan has pulled out of the second Test with hamstring trouble.
On the morning of the Test it was learned that Harbhajan had consulted two doctors in Adelaide, but he will travel to Melbourne, where he will meet more specialists before undergoing surgery next week. The injury to Harbhajan's spinning finger has caused trouble off and on over the last few months.
Zaheer Khan pulled up in the second innings of the first Test with a hamstring injury. He has been replaced, for the second Test, by Irfan Pathan, a left-arm seamer from Baroda.
Murali Kartik arrived in Adelaide late on Thursday night, but will have to wait a little longer for his Test recall. Anil Kumble replaced Harbhajan.
