It has been a busy week for Zimbabwean players preparing for the World Cup, as they go through a varying series of one-day matches as a `warm-up', since no proper warm-up matches are to be held in this country. Their first match against South Africa A (going under the label Zimbabwe A but nevertheless containing eleven of those in the World Cup squad) shows they need it, as they went down embarrassingly by eight wickets.
CONTENTS
They have just finished three rounds of inter-provincial one-day matches, played in Harare with one match in Mutare, and after the three matches against South Africa A we have another three rounds, played in Bulawayo with two matches in Kwekwe.
This series is sponsored by Faithwear Clothing, and the two third-round matches in Harare were particularly good one-day matches with good cricket and exciting finishes. In this issue we have reports and scores of those matches already played; in the next two issues we will cover the rest. The Harare public unfortunately ignored these matches, but as usual the Mutare game was very well supported. We wait to see whether Bulawayo can do better than Harare for public support.
