Zimbabwe v West Indies

Tony Cozier and John Ward
15-Apr-2005
At Bulawayo, November 22, 2003. West Indies won by 51 runs (D/L method). Toss: West Indies. One-day international debuts: V. Sibanda; R. Rampaul.
"Bulawayo" means "place of slaughter", and Gayle and Lara made it live up to its name. The Zimbabwean bowling was not particularly poor, but no team in the world is a match for Lara in full flight. He hit 14 fours and three sixes in 82 balls, his second fifty taking just 23 balls. Gayle started more cautiously, but batted through the innings for a one-day best 153 not out in 160 balls, with 19 fours and two sixes. The best Zimbabwe could aim for was damage limitation. Sibanda hit a fifty on one-day debut, with some classy strokes, while Wishart showed the talent he had revealed all too rarely at international level. With rain approaching, West Indies turned to spin to ensure they completed the 25 overs required for a result.
Man of the Match: C. H. Gayle.
