UCBSA Press Release
November 13, 2002
Western Province all-rounder Neil Johnson has been suspended for two Standard Bank Cup matches after being found guilty by the UCB Disciplinary Commissioner of having contravened Clauses 1.5.1 and 1.5.2 of the Rules and Codes of Conduct of the United Cricket Board.
Johnson was found to have shown active misconduct and unruly behaviour after having an appeal for a caught and bowled turned down by umpire Barry Lambson on the first day of the Supersport Series final against Easterns at Willowmoore Park. He showed open dissent towards the umpires decision by throwing down the stumps at the batsmans end. A previous conviction for a similar offence was taken into account by the Disciplinary Commisioner when handing down the suspension.
He will be suspended for Western Province's game against Namibia today and for the game against Eastern Province on 20 November.
Three other players have also been suspended for contravening Clauses 1.3, 1.5.1 and 1.5.2 of the Rules and Code of Conduct of the United Cricket Board.
KZN Dolphins bowler Jonathan Bastow and Free State Eagles batsmen Graham Botha and Deon Jordaan have been suspended for one UCB Shield Limited Over match following acts of misconduct and unruly behaviour in the UCB Shield game between the two provinces on 28 October.
