Victoria 100 for 2 trail Western Australia 167 (Murphy 4-37) by 67 runs
Cameron Bancroft's horror start to the summer continued, dismissed cheaply on a tough opening day for Western Australia's batters in their Sheffield Shield match against Victoria.
On the same day Todd Murphy took four wickets for Victoria to press his claims for the Sri Lanka tour, Bancroft's misery lived on as he was out for just 12. The former Test opener was the first man out as WA were all out for 167, before Victoria went to stumps at 100 for 2.

Australia 93 for 4 (Maxwell 43, Stoinis 21*, Afridi 2-9) beat Pakistan 64 for 9 (Afridi 20*, Ellis 3-9, Bartlett 3-13) by 29 runs
It was a shortened game at the Gabba, and Australia made short work of it. After persistent rain and lightning delayed the start by nearly three hours and reduced the game to a seven-over shootout, Australia inflicted a crushing 29-run defeat upon Pakistan. Glenn Maxwell, who struggled in the preceding ODI series, blasted his way through the innings with 43 off 19, before Pakistan slumped to 24 for six in the first four overs before finishing with 64 for nine.
Mohammad Rizwan called correctly at the toss and unsurprisingly put Australia in. But the hosts had a clarity of purpose from the outset, looking to hit a boundary off every ball, aware that wickets didn't really matter as much. Shaheen Shah Afridi was plundered for 16 off his first over to set the tone, and though Haris Rauf's tight first over had Maxwell flailing, the tide would turn soon.

India 219 for 6 (Tilak 107, Abhishek 50, Simelane 2-34) beat South Africa 208 for 7 (Jansen 54, Arshdeep 3-37) by 11 runs
Tilak Varma became India's second centurion in the space of six days and ensured they cannot lose the four-match T20I series. They lead 2-1 with the final match to be played on Friday, and the hosts left with only the option of a draw. South Africa have not won a bilateral T20I series since beating Ireland 2-0 in August 2022 and have lost five and drawn two series in that time.
At a time when the next major tournament is 15 months away, and with the knowledge they reached this year's T20 World Cup final, that may not worry South Africa much. But there will be questions over their depth and some of their strategies after they conceded heavily and stumbled in the chase for the second time this series.

Kusal Mendis 143 and Avishka Fernando 100 put Sri Lanka 1-0 up

A second-wicket stand of 206 was the bedrock of a comfortable win, with a mid-innings collapse ending New Zealand's challenge in a rain-shortened chase

Sri Lanka 324 for 5 in 49.2 overs (Kusal 143, Avishka 100, Asalanka 40, Duffy 3-41) beat New Zealand 175 for 9 in 27 overs (Young 48, Robinson 35, Bracewell 34*, Madushanka 3-39) by 45 runs (DLS method)
Kusal Mendis and Avishka Fernando made centuries, and put on 206 together to send Sri Lanka to a commanding score. Then, once rain had reduced New Zealand's chase to 27 overs, Sri Lanka's spinners reaped five wickets for 22 runs to derail the visitors after their openers had made a strong start.
In the end, New Zealand didn't get close to the 221 they required off 27 overs. They puttered to 175 for 9, with too little firepower in their lower order to get them up with the required rate, and too much know-how in Sri Lanka's attack to let them prosper after the collapse.
